The 2008 experiment showed that a candidate's religion still matters particularly in the south. Let us remember back to the 2008 campaign. After robbing the treasury by outspending any previous democrat administration, the republicans knew they were handing it back to the democrats. That is why they pitched the nomination to McCain, who was no friend to the republican establishment. They could finally rid him of throwing his hat in the ring every time. In the meantime they needed to run an experiment. In their grooming of Romney they only had one question. Would conservatives elect a Mormon? They let Romney out of the gate and sure enough he was ahead of McCain. Again, they knew they were going to loose in 2008. If Romney got the nomination and lost to the Democrat, he would be out in 2012. Enter Mike Huckabee, Southern Baptist. He split the conservative vote. Despite pressure from conservatives Huckabee would not withdraw. He stayed in the race until McCain emerged as the clear leader. Their experiment showed that religion does matter among conservatives. Now back in 2012 where is Huckabee? You would expect someone who did so well in 2008 to challenge in 2012. I suspect that it was all manipulation in 2008. My suspicion now is that when Romney receives the nomination in 2012 he will pick up Huckabee as his running mate thereby trying to overcome the religious objectors. <br />True conservatives have an opportunity here to teach the RNC a lesson by not showing up to vote. Obama would win and then in 2016 the RNC may get the message to nominate a true conservative. That is if the country can survive another four years.Dan Mansonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13919637645003167878noreply@blogger.com
