“Balder, too, was a hero, but not one of the blustering kind, like Thor. He slew no giants; he never went into battle; he never tried to make for himself a name among the dwellers of the mid-world; and yet he was a hero of the noblest type. He dared to do right, and to stand up for the good, the true, and the beautiful. There are still some such heroes, but the world does not always hear of them.” From The Story of Siegfried, James Baldwin.

Regarding the article up on your political website right now, I think what Garison Keeler was trying to point out was that if the Republicans who are agitating against public health-care would just go away then there would be enough to finance it---and why shouldn´t they when they don´t want it anyway. Is the private health system any better? Are you happy to pay and arm and a leg for health care for each member of your family? I saw an interesting study once that showed how all the republican states used up the recourses and entitlements from the blue states. They took the water from rivers that started in the blue states, they took taxes that were payed in blue states (the most rich states in the union) and the study concluded, after listing all the recourses and handouts from democratic states that republican states used, with saying that it was just a little bit hypocretical to complain about government handouts when they themselves were the biggest recipients of them. Without taxes there would be no roads, no public libraries, no fire departments, no public schools, no military and no health-care. In fact, many of these things have been prviatised over the last ten years as shown brilliantly in Naomi Klein´s book The Shock Doctrine.
